Breaking News.. 3SkypePhone on sale
Told you it was going to be soon.. and its also the reason why I've been so quiet online lately - it's absolutely mental in the office! ;) Anyway, you can check out the www.threeskypephone.com.au minisite for links to buy, or preregistrees will be getting a message to say its available today this afternoon.

Thanks for the great news!
Do you know how much and how frequent the recharge is for a prepaid 3Skype Phone?
I just walked into the 3 store in George Street, Sydney and they knew nothing about todays launch.
@Anonymous: No.. at the moment we are only making it available to purchase online. I am not sure when the instore launch will be, but we are selling online only at first to try to ensure that all the preregistrees get first dibs at the stock before anyone who walks off the street can buy one.
The 3SkypePhone is $179 on Prepaid and the voice credit lasts 60 days. If you recharge within the 60 days, then the unused credit will rollover and not expire til the new recharged credit expiry date (if that makes sense :) Skype credit is purchased from the Skype store ;)
Sweet! Thanks for answering my questions and clearing up that confusion :-)
So we can buy a new phone with a new prepaid service from Ebay. What do existing Prepaid 3 customers do?
Do we just fill in the form and wait 2 days for someone from customer care to call?
@Anonymous. I would actually recommend you buy it off ebay. At 3 there is (currently anyway) no added benefit to having your prepaid account linked together so just purchase through ebay like a new customer instead of having to wait for a call back from a CSR ;)
I was going to buy one... until I saw it is locked to 3 Australia with a $199 fee to unlock. So all this talk of being global yadda yadda and you can't even move with it out of the country. No thanks! :(
@ Anonymous
Regarding unlocking, the whole statement actually says:
"3 will provide the unlocking code free of charge (Postpaid only) A $199 unlocking fee applies if you wish to unlock your mobile within 12 months of connection (Prepaid Only)"
If you buy the phone on potspaid you can actually unlock your phone for free at any time during your contract. It's only on prepaid that 3 charges if you want to unlock your mobile within the first 12 months. I think you will find that is a standard prepaid clause with other carriers out there too ;)
No SkypeOut?? Why? That's one of the best features of Skype!
I currently use Skype to call UK mobiles with SkypeOut.
I can't believe that 3's call charges to UK mobiles will be anywhere near as cheap as SkypeOut ! Please prove me wrong ...
Ordered mine from Ebay last night!
Any idea how long I can expect to wait until it arrives?
